Isbell's great talent in a poor venue
I was excited when I saw that his current tour was bringing him to Atlanta, having been a fan of the Drive By Truckers and the last couple of solo releases by Marco Antonio Solis. His performance embodied my impressions with all that I expected and a surprising energy considering the grueling tour he is currently conducting. His is a very talented song writer and sings his songs with an innate passion that squeezes every ounce of emotion from his thoughtful and provocative lyrics. By the time the sound board was properly mixed, the partiers had become so obnoxious you still could not hear the songs. My biggest problem was that the sound board operator could not get the proper balance to hear the vocals clearly and at times was so loud it became painful and unintelligible and in addition was washing out the great performances by his band. Overall I recommend anyone to see Marco Antonio Solis perform in person, but just not at this location. Combine that with all general admission, stand up, party atmosphere (the only few seats to sit in were in the balcony) and it became quite a miserable venue to showcase Isbell's considerable talents. I seriously doubt I will ever go back to this venue whoever is playing there. I was very disappointed with this venue because this could have been a truly great experience.
